We are anligcan and not really religious, but we do want a minister to marry us. How long is the wedding ceremony, and what all does it entail?
I’ve been to religious weddings that are only 20 minutes long. There’s no cookie-cutter way of doing it – you have the choice of how you want your ceremony to be.
The minister should help you build the ceremony. You can read vows to each other if you want, or you can have the minister read (and you just say "I do"). If you think it’s going to be too short, you can add a song, reading, or a poem. It’s also popular to do something symbolic during the wedding, like light a candle together, share a glass of wine, etc. Some people put sand in a bowl (look up sand ceremony). If it sounds lame, don’t feel obligated to do any of it. It’s your wedding and it should be about how you want to share your day with your guests!
When I got married, the minister had the whole ceremony written out, so my husband and I knew exactly what he was going to say before. We made a lot of changes too, so we were really involved with the process.
