Very small destination wedding etiquette?

Posted on December 31st, 2010 by admin

My fiance and I are having a very small (ie. about 20-25 people) wedding on beach in OBX in May. We are planning to have a bigger cook out type party in September to celebrate with the rest of our family and friends. Is it rude to register for gifts? Is it rude to NOT register for gifts?

This is such a great question. We did the same thing. We only invited 8 people to our destination wedding. I was clueless if we should register or not. We decided to register at one place only because we have a lot of friends spread out all over the place. Mostly for people that wouldn’t be able to attend our reception party later and still wanted to send a gift. You don’t have to tell anyone you even have it..unless they ask.

Outer banks are awesome. You’re going to have a blast! Cograts!

How far is too far to have a wedding reception from the church?

Posted on December 31st, 2010 by admin

The church where the wedding will be held is in a rather small town where there are not a lot of options for reception halls, and I’d rather not hold it in the church itself. The nearest larger city is twenty minutes away by highway. Is that too far to ask my guests to travel?

30 mins is acceptable. Most people balk at anything further than that even though it really isn’t that much farther away.

Light in the Box? For wedding accessories?

Posted on December 31st, 2010 by admin

I’ve seen lovely wedding accessories on the Light in the box website but they are sooo cheap, maybe too cheap. Are they legitimate or is it a scam. Anyone had any experience with them as i am considering buying some accessories for my sister for her wedding.

My mom’s friend purchased her wedding dress from Light in the Box. It came within weeks of her ordering it and she said it fit perfectly according to her measurements!

She recommended I get my dress on there, but I opted for going to an actual bridal boutique. I didn’t know they sold accessories. I’ll have to check them out. She was really happy with everything they did for her recent wedding a few months ago. She’s older and wiser than I am. She’s 40-something, so I trust her judgment on these things.

EDIT: I just went to their site and spent 1/2 hr on there looking at their wedding favors. I liked the love-doves salt and pepper shakers! Also the Pizza slicer b/c my fiance and I are HUGE into pizza being born and raised in the Chicago-land area and all (There’s no beating Giordano’s Deep Dish.) The prices are spectacular and I am going to show my fiance tonight and probably buy our favors now b/c they are offering free shipping through Dec. 31st!!! Probably a 2010 gimmick, but I’ll bite! So much cheaper than paying for shipping of over 100 favors. Don’t you agree?

Can anyone help mefind the right wedding florist at the right price?

Posted on December 30th, 2010 by admin

I am getting married on 7th August but don’t know where to start with the flowers as my local florist is overpriced anyway and the garden centre seems overpriced too. I am having my reception and ceremony in the same venue so i will only need buttonholes, bridal bouquet, 2 bridesmaids bouquets and some flowers for the tables. Any recommendations would be really appreciated!
Sorry i forgot to say i live in Egham, Surrey but am prepared to travel to find the right place!

Hi i own a florist shop in Norfolk. And specialise in wedding work. I know lots of florist over the country so would be happy to recommend a florist in your area. Unless you live in Norfolk where i can help you, i cater for all budgets and requirements.

I would not suggest making your own as its not as easy as some DIY sites make out. And do you really need the added stress?

Need info on wedding etiquette when it comes to invitations?

Posted on December 30th, 2010 by admin

If we are inviting people to the evening do only, do you still invite them to the church? Also, there would be a waiting time between the wedding which starts at 12 pm and the evening do at 7 pm…so if they were coming to just the evening reception, they would have a wait….

If you are inviting certain people to the evening do only then you wouldn’t invite them to the church. You can get separate invitations for people you intend to just invite to the evening part than from the people you are inviting for the full day.

What are some unique location ideas for a wedding reception?

Posted on December 30th, 2010 by admin

Early planning stages for a wedding and want to do something fun for the reception. We’re thinking about a picnic or backyard, but we’ve also considered the children’s museum or a bowling alley. Any suggestions?

Picnic receptions are fun because there is such a large choice of beautiful inexpensive decorating ideas. Also, you can get really creative with the food choices, and it is more informal. You can decorate with beautiful plants and flowers in planters that you can actually use in/around your home after the wedding instead of wasting all that money on picked flowers.
