Who traditionally pays for what in a Sikh wedding?

I’d like to know what the bride and grooms side are responsible for paying at both the engagement and the wedding… including the parties after the actual ceremony.

bride’s family does the reception, both bride and groom buy thier own gifts for the bridal party sides, he should buy your ring and you buy his ring

Can a couple eliminate all pre-wedding ceremonies for a punjabi sikh wedding? We want it to be simple?

The reason I ask is because I hate all of the over-the-top excessiveness that accompanies punjabi weddings. I just want my wedding to include the religious portion in the gurdwara (temple) and have a reception. I don’t want a shaagan/magni ceremony, chuni ceremony, gift/money giving, etc. But I want to know if others have removed these ceremonies as well, and if so how did family react?

I want the same for myself…I don’t think my family would like the idea.
Honestly, your family and guest would frown upon the idea of eliminating pre-wedding ceremonies….however, it’s your day…make it the way you want to. You can also reach a compromise…like have a magni and combine it with the shaagun (invite only family members tho), then have a low key mendhi and sangeet and the next day have a simple wedding…I’m not sure what the chunni ceremony is but what I’m trying to say is, you can do all the ceremonies (for the sake of your parents) but make it a small thing. It sucks that half the people that go to these ceremonies are actually only there for the food or something…they could care less about the couple.
