Is it weird to have a wedding reception two months after the wedding?

Posted on July 24th, 2011 by admin

Personally I’ve never heard of this. But, with my wedding coming up and the details that apply to it, it is unreasonable to have a true wedding reception the day of or the day after or really, any time near the wedding at all.

We’re planning on a very unique destination wedding that only has immediate family attending, then, directly after the wedding we’re going on our honeymoon for quite a while, and by the time we get back and all set for the reception it will be around two months later.

At the reception there will be around 150 people or so attending. Has anyone heard of this happening before? And, is it acceptable?

Its a little strange. You can still do that but if you call it a reception you might be perceived as rude by your guests.

Should the family hold a wedding reception two years after the nuptials?

Posted on May 27th, 2011 by admin

A relative married quickly after finding she was pregnant the baby is now over a year old. They did have a baby shower for her. Now she longs for the large wedding reception she did not have. It has been two years since the couple married. They are renting a hall and planning a reception this fall. Is a gift appropriate? I find this tacky. What do you think?

I can understand her longing for this, but I’d say in the circumstances – given they’ve been married two years – there’s no need to buy the usual sort of wedding gift. Just some small token fun gift to make them smile, but without the pretence that it’s a real wedding. An unusual jelly mould, or a set of cheap colourful glasses; that kind of level.

A good wedding reception venue in northeastern Massachusetts with budget of 15K?

Posted on May 1st, 2011 by admin

I am a bride to be on a budget. I am looking for a good wedding reception venue in NE Massachusetts with a budget of 15,000 dollars and a potential guest list of 150-160 people. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer a Country Club style venue but I am not closed minded. Also a nice outdoor area would be lovely, but not necessary. Anyone with any ideas, please let me know. I am lost!

I’ve been to a few weddings at the Westford Regency that were great!

What’s good about this place is that they have rooms so you can stay overnite if you want to have a few drinks and not drive afterwards.

Diburro’s in Haverhill is pretty nice.

I’ve also been to a wedding reception at the Andover Country club that was very nice.

I’ll edit/add more as I think of them.

How is it different when you wait to have your wedding reception?

Posted on March 23rd, 2011 by admin

Back in January, I had a very small wedding because I couldn’t afford more than that, let alone have any kind of reception. Now that I’m getting most of my finances together, my husband and I are planning a late reception in May. But I’m curious on how I should do things different for a later reception. Should I wear my dress again? Should I still throw the bouquet and cut the cake and all of that? I’m not sure how things should be different since I waited. Could someone enlighten me a bit? Thanks!

Most people seem to think (and etiquette says this, as well) that when a reception is months later than the wedding, it’s not a wedding reception. The purpose of the wedding reception is to thank your guests for attending your ceremony, and to "receive" the happy couple for the first time as man and wife. Neither applies in your situation, and whatever you did after your ceremony counts as the reception.

So the general rule is that you can throw a party, or open house, or barbecue, etc. but you’d avoid all the trappings of a wedding reception. You can still have food and drink, dancing, etc. but it would look strange to play bride in a wedding dress when you’ve been married for months.

What are some food ideas for a buffet style wedding reception?

Posted on March 14th, 2011 by admin

I need some inexpensive ideas of different types of food to serve at a buffet style wedding reception. The wedding is at the end of April. I am having the reception in a historic rustic barn. There are about 65 guests. I feel with such a small number of people, to get a caterer is spending more money than we have to. The reception begins at 5:30 pm. We can not have any candles or sterno type things due to fire codes and this barn is solid wood. Serious answers please, and thank you.

Barn screams BBQ at me :-)

Have BBQ pork or chicken; slaw, beans and sweet tea.

Sounds great to me and probably won’t be very expensive either.

What should I say on our wedding reception/1 year anniversary invitations?

Posted on February 11th, 2011 by admin

Me and my husband were not able to have a wedding so we went to the courthouse. Now almost one year later we and our family want to have a reception. I want it to celebrate our wedding but I don’t want people to think it to late or think that we’re just asking for gifts. What can we put on our invitations to explain what were doing that will be sweet and cute. Without them thinking were expecting gifts?

Well you did have a courthouse wedding a year ago. A reception is supposed to immediately follow the ceremony so it is too late to have a reception. You should just have an anniversary party, and word the invitation as such. Make no reference to a wedding and people will automatically give you gifts meant for an anniversary and not a wedding.

How many bathrooms do I need at my outside wedding reception?

Posted on January 19th, 2011 by admin

We are planning on having around 150 people invited to our wedding and reception. We are having the reception outside so we need to rent outhouses. Do we need to rent 2 or can we just rent 1. Thanks.

You definitely need more than 1! I would say you probably need at least 2 if not even 4.

Here’s a chart that will help: http://www.mesawasteservices.com/faq.php

According to the chart, for 150 for a 6-hour event you need either 3 or 4.

At the wedding reception, which do you do first dance or eat?

Posted on January 8th, 2011 by admin

My fiance and I are planning our wedding and we’re not sure the order of things at the reception. Upon arriving at the reception do you and your guests eat the wedding feast or dance first? I don’t want people to leave before the father daughter dance, and I also don’t want people to leave before the cake cutting. Im not sure which is a better choice. How do these things normally go?

I’m a DJ and I have seen it done in all different permutations.

Some couples like to dance immediately after the Grand Entrance because they are so nervous they just want to get it out of the way.

Other couples like to eat first then immediately start with the first dance, then father/daughter & mother/son dances, cake cutting, then the guests dance.

It will depend on how you two feel.
