@simbass69 The …
@simbass69 The Nikon 24-70 f2.8 is a very good choice. You will find that it will live on your camera 85% of the time.
The 135mm f2 will auto focus on a D90 and it becomes close to a 200mm f2.
For a cheaper alternative for portraits, a D90 with a 50mm f1.4 becomes a 75mm f1.4 can give you decent results. Another alternative is to go with a 105mm f2.8 macro which is under rated. Its a bit sharp and may require softening in photoshop. But a good multi use lens for weddings.

Hello. I am about …
Hello. I am about to invest in some quality nikon gear and I have found your advice very helpful. I am wanting a D700 camera and still tossing up lenses but I think I will go with the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 as my main lens and am leaning towards135mm F2 for portraits. (I work at a high school and take all of the formal photos and Ive been approached to do friends weddings). Do you know of a cheaper good portrait lens while I save up for a nikon 135 f2? & can these lenses be used on a D90? Thanks

@legsone 2 options …
@legsone 2 options: you can go with the 17-55 f2.8 since you are using a DX camera. This will cover you on the wide angle for landscapes and at 55mm act almost like a 75-80mm f2.8 which is ok for portraits. Or go direct to a 70-200mm f2.8 (V1 or V2) for portraits, and just use your 18-105 mm for landscapes. The 70-200mm is a great portrait lens, and you’ll like the quality of the output.
Mabuhay Kabayan! hope this helps. If you need more info, feel free to email me =).

@legsone Since I’ m just starting with the hobby and having just bought the d90 i will stay with the d90 for now but will upgrade in the future. Currently I have a nikon 18-105 mm f 3.5 which came with the camera that i bought and a 50 mm f 1.8. I need professional grade lenses mainly for shooting portrait and landscaping, advise pls.

@legsone Thanks …
@legsone Thanks for your comments regarding my work! In regards to lenses for your D90, just a few questions before recommending :
1. Will you be upgrading to full frame later?
2. What lenses do you already have?
3. Would you like recommendations on professional grade lenses or just consumer grade?
Btw, Im from San Francisco, and born in the Philippines =)

You cant go wrong …
You cant go wrong with either lens. Both are great for portraits. Its a matter of working distance preference. I only went with the 135mm because I already owned the 85mm therefore wanted to have a little bit more of a gap. If you find a 135mm though, Id grab it because they are hard to find nowadays! Happy Shooting!

@BeMoonlit D300s …
@BeMoonlit D300s is a decent camera and is a good choice for now. You can always upgrade later on once the update to the D700 comes out. Since you may be going with a D300s instead, lens choice will change. Instead of a 24-70, you may want to consider a 17-55 f2.8 DX lens instead. Just remember you will need to purchase full frame lenses later on if you decide to go full frame therefore investing in a 24-70mm now wouldn’t be a bad idea. 1st choice~ 24-70mm.

@DMGFotos Oh …
@DMGFotos Oh meaningful, thank you so much. I’m brand loyal, however, i ‘m not so sure whether i can wait for new release D700s or not (since i don’t know when). Maybe i better consider D300s…To achieve my previous goal, if u can recommend to the only best one lens (useful in many cases & easy to carry around) which one u gonna point to?

If you are not brand loyal, the best combo for photo/video currently is Canon’s 5D Mark II. For Nikon the D3s is a great choice as well but pricey for me. The difference between the D300s / D700, the D700 is full frame meaning the sensor is bigger & records more light. The D700 is one of the best in low light, and if you can wait for the D700s/D700x, I’d wait. For Nikon lenses, in order, I’d get Nikons Big 3: 24-70, 70-200 VRII, and the 14-24mm.

@DMGFotos seriously …
@DMGFotos seriously i have reviewed D700 & D300s. i looking 4 the best Pro camera and few lenses.i love D300s since it has video and i felt in love with its advertising Video. However, D700 is(designed of the mix D3+D300 body) Full frame -i don’t know what is mean . Thus, i still doubt cannot decide yet.I love 2 take good pic 4my everyday life such as portraits, architecture, temple, landscape, wedding, bird-insect and video too because i love traveling.i need only 1 Cam & 1, 2 ,or 3 lenses.

@BeMoonlit
The D700 does not have video, but the rumor is that Nikon may introduce a D700s/D700x that will have video later this year. In regard to lenses, if I can only carry one for a wedding, it would be the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 because it’s the most used focal lenghth for me. But, My favorite lens to shoot with is the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR II. Basically, it all comes down to what type of photography you will be doing.
